Our Belfast Based Trichologists

Trichology is the study of hair and scalp problems. Trichology deals with all different hair loss types including scaling problems and baldness.

A trichologist specialises in a range of subject matters including:

  • Nutrition
  • Electro-therapy
  • Physiology and anatomy of the systems of the human body
  • Chemistry
  • Scalp and hair maladies
  • Physiology and anatomy of the skin
  • Microscopy

A trichologist deals with three main problems:

  • Itching scalp or excessive oiliness.
  • Excessive loss of hair, baldness patches, hair breakage and thinning hair.
  • Scaling problems.

When you visit one of our centres for a consultation the specialist will find out the cause of your hair loss problem to help the trichologist better determine the problem and find out the best way to deal with it:

  • Surgery may be needed and will advise you on the most effective surgical procedure available for your cause of hair loss.
  • Your problem needs treatment and what treatment will be most effective for you.
  • The problem is severe and you need to be referred to your doctor for further help.

Causes of Hair Loss

  • Causes of hair loss differ between women and men. Losing around 100 to 150 hairs every day is normal. The growth of hair happens in three different phases, anagen, catagen and telogen. The growing phase of hair growth is anagen. When the hairs start to break down is the catagen phase. And the resting phase is telogen. The hair you lose ever day tends to be in the catagen or telogen phase. Typically, ten percent of the hairs on the scalp are in the resting phase at any one time. They aren’t growing and are getting ready for shedding.
  • Most of the time hair loss can be put down to family history, aging and genetics. The majority of people have a mild and normal thinning of their hair throughout their thirties or forties. Whilst other times stress, hormone changes and nutritional changes experienced during puberty and when pregnant can cause hair loss. Generally hair loss isn’t related to internal or systemic disease, and a poor diet rarely is related to loss of hair.
  • If you happen to be suffering from hair loss and are not sure what the cause is, visit one of our clinics where you can meet a specialist who will examine your hair and determine the exact cause of your hair loss. Once the specialist has found the reason for your hair loss, he will recommend hair replacement treatments which are available to deal with it. This is a free no obligation service and you will not be pressured into committing to anything financially.

Restore Your Hair from Hair Loss

For anyone losing their hair it can be an extremely upsetting and devastating time in their life, their appearance changes and they can lose their self esteem and confidence. There have been big advancements over the last decade in surgical hair restoration for men and women. Thankfully the unattractive and obvious hair plug appearance which used to be associated with hair transplantation has long gone.

Who is hair restoration for?

Hair restoration is for anyone whose hair is thinning or falling out. Hair restoration fills in patches of hair loss on the scalp which is noticeable and recreates a thinning hairline.

There are some important factors you need to discuss with your surgeon before undergoing this procedure:

  • Age
  • Your hair and skin
  • History of hair loss in the family
  • Your ethnic background

What to expect

Once you have booked a consultation at an Advanced Hair Studio clinic to discuss hair restoration you will be given an appointment date and time. During the consultation the surgeon will assess your emotional and mental attitudes towards this procedure and will go through your medical history.

Next your scalp and hairline will be examined and samples of scalp skin or hair may be taken if needed.

Once you and the surgeon have made the decision to proceed with hair restoration they will go through with you the techniques used and any possible complication which may arise.

The cost of hair restoration isn’t the same for everyone and will depend on the severity of your hair loss.
